Silent Witness

In January 1859 Mauna Loa erupted.

The lava flowed for 300 days.

And on September 2nd something truly amazing happened.

A Red Aurora lit up the sky.

The largest ever recorded solar storm and the longest lava flow on the island. At the same time.

Na‘au

Every touch of the brush. Every spot of color. Is just Yes or No

Yes or No. Always. Like a fork in the road

Follow the road. Follow your heart. And the painting paints itself

The Ancestor Of My Ancestor Is Your Ancestor

Look to Mauna Kea from Waimea as the sun sets in the winter and you may see the Whale in the Mountain—outlined by the fading sunlight

Through the elegant geometry of our solar system he may also appear in moonlight as the moon sets on a summer night—the setting for this painting

Kohola have been coming here since the Mountain was a child

They are as old as the hills

Simplicity Itself

One dynamic line. One relationship. One palette

First and foremost don’t forget. It only takes ONE to spark energy

To stare at a million dots and see

One sky

To explore a million fine lines and see

One texture

To feast the eyes on a myriad and see

One image, one overwhelming feeling

Is to see simplicity itself
